Deep current structure in the Toyama Deep-Sea Channel in the Japan Sea

Abstract The flow field in the Toyama Deep-Sea Channel (TDSC) Japan Sea was investigated based on mooring observations. An asymmetric current system accompanying offshore and onshore currents over east- west-side slopes channel, respectively, is suggested. A bottom intensified characteristic observed at stations Yamato Basin. channel also suggested by distribution of water characteristics across TDSC Bay; a cold dense mass with higher dissolved oxygen (DO) transmittance (Tr) found slope whereas lower DO Tr distributed east-side slope, suggesting turbidity from head Bay. facing shallower depth their right-hand-side, along density TDSC, suggest under influence earth’s rotation. concentration significantly than that region same temperature range. This suggests modified which experienced significant mixing low probably due to strong shear between narrow channel.
